Task- Create a chess piece
Had some issues loading the chess scene but my flatmate with better experience uploaded it for me as an error was occurring.
I then removed the grid and was ready to start creating the first pawn. I first had to read the first 7 steps to create the outline of the pawn piece. I wrote down these 7 steps so I knew exactly what they were and so I wouldn’t have to flick between screens as for this task the shift key needs to be held down.
I followed the instruction and went to the create panel and selected line setting its initial and drag type to corner. I then held the shift key to create and L shape on the pawn for the middle and the base. From there I let go of the shift key and followed the right side to contort the basic outline shape of the pawn piece.
I then closed the spine and needed to edit it so that it looked smoother. I did this by following the instructions bellow. I had to use techniques like fillet and refine as well as smooth to get the vertex in the correct places for the pawn so that it was more accurate. It was not too confusing as I had the instruction written out in front of me.
Finally, I needed to make the pawn and actual model an di did this by following the final instruction which was about making the pawn a lathe. I then Increased the segment value to 32 from 16 to make it smoother and then added the welded core to combine all the vertices of the centre of the model to one.
I do plan to use these instruction to keep modelling different chess pieces as it will allow me to become comfortable modelling without the instructions.
